Report: Blue Jays investigating new sexual misconduct allegation against Roberto Alomar

The Toronto Blue Jays have opened an investigation into another sexual misconduct allegation against Roberto Alomar stemming from 2014. 

Melissa Verge alleged in a story published by the Toronto Star on Friday that Alomar propositioned her for sex and pressed his body into hers without consent while she was working at a youth baseball camp run by the Blue Jays. Verge was 18 at the time and Alomar was 46.

Verge said she reported the incident to a team official and friend of Alomar's named Rob Jack. The Blue Jays said Jack never informed anyone else about Verge's allegations, and he was fired a year later. 

In a statement to the Toronto Star, the Blue Jays said they hired outside counsel to investigate the incident, adding that they were "troubled to learn about Ms. Verge's experience in 2014 involving Roberto Alomar and another former employee."

Alomar was fired as a consultant for Major League Baseball in April after an investigation into another sexual misconduct allegation. He also lost his position as a special assistant with the Blue Jays. 

Alomar played for the Blue Jays from 1991-95 and the team announced last month it was removing a banner honoring the Hall of Famer at Rogers Centre as well as other acknowledgments of his career in Toronto. 

Verge said the news of Alomar being fired from his positions "opened the door for me to be able to share my story."
