Newly acquired left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales is not expected to stay with the Atlanta Braves for long.
As a part of the trade that Atlanta made with the Seattle Mariners, Gonzales' contract was a key factor in the trade as Seattle looked to drop his salary off of the books.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic on X, he posted"
Fallout from last night’s Braves-Mariners trade: The Braves do not plan on keeping left-hander Marco Gonzales, sources tell The Athletic. Expected to be part of another deal. Destination unknown.
With Winter Meetings just getting underway, this move could come sometime this week. Atlanta's Alex Anthopoulos could move him to another team, or waive the pitcher and just take the penalty of the contract.

The full trade was Atlanta receiving outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales, and first baseman Evan White from Seattle, with Gonzales being owed $12.25M in 2024 and White being owed nearly $7M in 2024.
The Braves sent Cole Phillips, one of their top prospects , and Jackson Kowar, who was recently acquired from Kansas City, to Seattle in the deal. Phillips, Atlanta's 2nd round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, has Tommy John surgery in April of last year and had not yet officially debuted for Atlanta in minor league competition prior to the deal.
