Among the players the Braves are looking to trade ahead of the deadline, Raisel Iglesias is at the top of the list.
One of the top closers in baseball just last year, Iglesias is amid a career-worst season, boasting a 4-6 record with an unsightly 5.09 ERA. However, he’s been a lot better as of late, allowing a run in just one of his last 18 appearances.
Given he’s on an expiring contract, there’s not much reason for the Braves to hang onto Iglesias, and the list of potential suitors should be pretty lengthy. The Cubs being one of the teams that is reportedly interested.
“The Cubs are actively searching for late-inning relievers who could work in front of Daniel Palencia or help share the workload with the young closer,” Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma wrote for The Athletic.
“Raisel Iglesias is not having his finest season with the Atlanta Braves, but he is one of several options under consideration, due to his long history of success, as well as his reputation for being a positive clubhouse presence.”
Iglesias has been among the league’s best closers for the years. He owns a career 2.99 ERA and could probably benefit from being a set-up man for a contender. The Braves should not only have zero problem moving him, but they should also be able to get a decent prospect in return.
