Commissioner Rob Manfred awarded the 2027 MLB All-Star Game to the Chicago Cubs, who will host the annual event and accompanying festivities at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs hosting the All-Star Game in 2027 had long appeared to be a likely choice, though there had been a variety of issues the organization needed to address.

“I applaud the Ricketts family, the entire Cubs organization, the City of Chicago and the Chicago Sports Commission for presenting an impressive vision for 2027 All-Star Week,” Manfred said in a statement.

“The hard work put in to transform all of Wrigleyville into an outstanding destination deserves to be celebrated and shared on a national stage. We look forward to bringing the Midsummer Classic back to historic Wrigley Field and working alongside the Cubs, city and state officials, and the local organizing group to bring an extraordinary experience to the baseball fans of Chicago.

“Most importantly, Major League Baseball and its partners will leave behind a lasting impact on the communities across Chicago through the meaningful initiatives of the All-Star Legacy program.”

The future All-Star Game announcement was made during a ceremony at Wrigley Field, with several former Cubs, city and state officials, and other special guests in attendance.

“This is an honor for our team, our city and our state,” Cubs executive chairman Tom Ricketts said. “We can’t wait to showcase how we have preserved this iconic ballpark. Wrigley Field means so much to Cubs fans and millions of people who have visited what we believe is a baseball cathedral and one of Illinois’ top tourist destinations.

“We play in a world-class city that is especially beautiful in the summer and we’re looking forward to hosting the best players in our great game and fans from around the world.”

Chicago Cubs All-Star Game history

Including 2027, the Cubs will have hosted an All-Star Game four times in franchise history, all of which are coming at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs’ first All-Star Game was in 1947, and they additionally hosted in 1962 and 1990 as well. The 1962 exhibition was the second of two All-Star Games that were played that season.

Wrigley Field is becoming the third ballpark in MLB history to host an All-Star Game four times, joining Municipal Stadium and old Yankee Stadium.

Overall, 2027 is going to mark an eighth MLB All-Star Game hosted by the city of Chicago. That’s one shy of tying New York for most by one city.

When is the 2027 MLB All-Star Game?

The 2027 All-Star Game is going to be played Tuesday, July 13. It will be Major League Baseball’s 97th Midsummer Classic.

Future All-Star Game locations

MLB now has the sites for the next two All-Star Games, with the Philadelphia Phillies first up in 2026. After the Cubs in 2027, the San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles are among the teams under consideration for 2028 and beyond.

The 2027 All-Star Game is expected to be Manfred’s last as MLB commissioner.
