Rob Thomson Announces Alec Bohm News After Removal From Phillies Lineup

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking for more consistency in their lineup, along with contributions from their everyday players such as third baseman Alec Bohm, who is off to a slow start in 2026.

Bohm had a strong spring with the Phillies across 15 games, posting a .310 batting average, .333 on-base percentage, .929 OPS, three home runs and 10 RBIs. But unfortunately, that has not translated to the regular season.

Through his first 10 games this year, the 29-year-old has a .205/.295/.603 slash line, which is underwhelming considering his expectations in the middle of the batting order.

Still, Bohm has the ability to bounce back and be a bigger contributor behind the star-studded top of the order highlighted by Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.

Bohm looked to do just that on Tuesday in the second matchup of a three-game set with the San Francisco Giants. However, when Philadelphia announced its lineup, Bohm’s name was not in it. Instead, Edmundo Sosa drew the start at the hot corner, hitting fifth in the order.

With his absence initially looking like a routine off day, it quickly became clear that was not the case. Phillies manager Rob Thomson addressed his absence during pregame and announced that Bohm is dealing with groin soreness (h/t Matt Gelb of The Athletic).

Bohm has the possibility to return on Wednesday in the series finale against San Francisco and move past this minor setback.

Bohm is in his seventh season with the Phillies, and it could potentially be his last as he is entering the final year of team control before unrestricted free agency. He has spent his entire professional career with the organization since being selected third overall in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Since then, he has had many ups and downs, with his highest peak coming in 2024 when he was an All-Star. Bohm has surfaced in trade rumors throughout the past couple seasons but has ultimately remained with the club.

With both an injury to manage and an unclear long-term future, this latest setback only adds another layer of uncertainty to what could be a crucial season for him.
