Rock Legend Eddie Vedder Makes Huge MLB Announcement
Thomas Hawthorne/The Republic

Eddie Vedder is most known for his work over 30+ years as vocalist and guitarist for Pearl Jam, a band whose success over the years needs no introduction.

When he’s not jamming out on stage at sold-out stadiums, he’s an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He sang ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’ at Game 5 of the 2016 World Series, and even appeared as a jingle-writer in 2017 for the fictional ‘Bryzzo Souvenir Company’ with Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo following their World Series win.

However, the rock legend may have his coolest baseball-related initiative yet in the works for 2025.

Vedder announced Friday that the winner of the six-game season series between the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners will be given the ‘Vedder Trophy,’ a custom-made award.

The award is part of a charitable initiative to raise money for the Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Partnership, co-founded by Eddie and his wife Jill. The charity seeks to raise money to find treatments and cures for epidermolysis bullosa, which causes blistering of the skin.

The Vedders were personally affected by the rare condition when Jill’s childhood friend and co-founder Ryan Fullmer had a son born with EB.

It’s a touching act that hopefully will kickstart efforts to treat EB once and for all, and do so through the power of the baseball community.

Vedder spent a large part of his adolescence in San Diego, and joined Pearl Jam as part of the larger and influential Seattle grunge scene in 1990.

The two teams will play May 16-18 in Seattle and August 25-27 in San Diego.
