Rockies All-Star SS Trevor Story dealing with 'general tightness' around elbow

The Colorado Rockies had a lousy afternoon at the New York Mets on Thursday.

Colorado lost both games of a doubleheader at Citi Field, and injury was added to that insult when two-time All-Star shortstop Trevor Story departed the second contest early due to what manager Bud Black referred to as “general tightness” around his right elbow.

As Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post noted, Story tweaked his arm throwing to first base in the third inning and is currently considered day-to-day. Per ESPN stats, the 28-year-old is batting .255 with five home runs and 23 RBI on the season.

The rebuilding Rockies are 19-32 on the year and going nowhere fast in the National League West title race, and Story's name has come up in trade rumors since spring training. For a piece published Wednesday, though, Saunders wrote the Rockies don't plan to trade Story before the All-Star Game that was relocated to Denver and Coors Field.

"Just because the Rockies are looking to trade Story, that doesn’t mean other teams are willing to give the Rockies what they want," Saunders explained.
