It's getting a bit ridiculous that the Boston Red Sox haven't called up Roman Anthony. Even if the Red Sox were one of the better teams in Major League Baseball, which they're clearly not at 30-34 and 3-7 over their last 10 games after an embarrassing series loss against the Los Angeles Angels, Anthony should be on the roster.
Enough is enough.
Anthony is one of the best nine players in this organization, and it's a disservice to the rest of the team that he isn't up. He's proven all he’s needed to prove in Triple-A, and at some point, the Red Sox are only wasting his time.
With a .302 batting average, .932 OPS, and nine home runs, there's simply nothing left for him to show.
But what will it take for him to get the call-up to the big leagues? According to Lou Merloni, when speaking on NESN, he believes that an injury might be the way. He also added that trading one of the younger outfielders or giving Ceddanne Rafaela an infield glove could be another scenario.
“Injury, trade one of the young outfielders, or give Ceddanne an infield glove... It’s kind of weird that he’s down there. He’s the best one of the three,” he wrote.
Perhaps there’s a way the Red Sox could get Rafael Devers to play the infield and have Anthony play the outfield, with somebody from the outfield being in the DH spot.
However, that’d be a bit confusing, something the Red Sox will have to work out if that's what ultimately happened.
Regardless of how it happens or not, he needs to be on the team.
