Roman Anthony's Path to MLB Level Revealed by Red Sox Insider

If the Boston Red Sox want to call up Roman Anthony, something significant will likely have to happen.

Whether it be a trade or a player in the outfield getting hurt, there isn't exactly room for him right now. Wilyer Abreu has been one of the better outfielders in baseball to start the year, Ceddanne Rafaela plays an excellent defense out in the outfield, and while Jarren Duran is underperforming, he's one of the best players on the Red Sox. He won't get the boot for Anthony.

Answering what the Red Sox will do with Anthony, Ian Browne of MLB.com said that the front office will have a tough decision to make. However, he added that things have a way of working themselves out, and somebody could get injured, there could be a slump, or a trade could come in the near future.

“Really tough to say at this point. Honestly, it’s a challenging spot for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow to be in, though it’s a problem many teams would like to have. Things have a way of working themselves out. Here are scenarios: Someone will get injured to open a spot; A player will slump mightily to force a move. Or Breslow will have to make a trade to clear a spot,” he wrote.

Depending on what the Red Sox want to do, Rafaela might be the most likely trade candidate of the bunch.

They could sell high on Abrey, but he's been one of the better players on the roster this year. Moving him when they look to have something in the youngster would be a questionable decision, even if it means that Anthony has to sit in Triple-A for a couple more months.
