Expectations are starting to rise again for the Atlanta Braves as the 2026 MLB season approaches. After the front office aggressively addressed the team’s glaring weaknesses this winter, the Braves have a chance to solidify themselves as contenders once again.
That optimism is heightened by the likelihood that right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr. will enter the year fully healthy, ready to lead Atlanta back to the postseason.
The 27-year-old superstar had an excellent 2025 campaign returning from his second knee ACL injury, earning an All-Star selection and National League Comeback Player of the Year honors.
Across 95 games, Acuna posted a .290 batting average, .417 on-base percentage, .935 OPS, 21 home runs, 42 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
The biggest question for Acuna is whether he can regain the speed that once defined his game, as diminished quickness affected both his stolen base totals and his defensive range in the outfield.
At the same time, Acuna’s role extends far beyond his stat line. As the face of the Braves, his words and actions carry weight in the clubhouse and with the fan base, underscoring his importance as both a leader and a symbol of the franchise.
That influence was on display recently when he shared a message to Braves legend Andruw Jones following Jones’ election to the Hall of Fame.
“Congratulations my heart,” Acuna wrote in Spanish when the news broke Jones had officially been inducted after nine years on the ballot.
Jones’ achievement is a defining moment not just for him, but for the Braves franchise as a whole.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive center fielders in baseball history, Jones built a Hall of Fame career on elite range, effortless power and remarkable consistency during Atlanta’s dominant run in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
His election serves as validation for a player whose impact often went beyond traditional numbers, securing his place in Braves history and among the game’s true greats.
For Acuna, the milestone carries added meaning. As the current face of the franchise, he is following a similar path as a generational talent already deeply tied to Atlanta through his long-term contract, which runs through the prime of his career.
His accolades include an NL MVP award, five All-Star selections, three Silver Sluggers and his historic 40-homer, 70-steal season that redefined what was thought possible in today’s game.
Just as Jones’ Hall of Fame moment reflects the Braves’ past, Acuna continues to build a legacy in the present — one that could one day earn him the same honor in Cooperstown.
