The Kansas City Royals adjusted their pitching staff Saturday ahead of the second game of their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, announcing several roster moves as they try to stabilize their bullpen during a difficult stretch. Kansas City has gone 7-8 over its last 15 games while struggling to stay competitive in the increasingly crowded American League Central race.
The Royals entered the day at 19-26 after Friday’s 11-inning loss to the Cardinals, sitting fifth in the American League Central and 4.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians. Injuries and inconsistent pitching have continued to test Kansas City’s depth, placing even more pressure on an already struggling bullpen as the series against St. Louis continues.
The Royals took to their official X, formerly Twitter, account ahead of Saturday afternoon’s game to announce the transactions.

Matt Strahm’s injury became the most significant development for the Royals entering Game 2 of the series. The veteran reliever was placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation after aggravating the issue during Friday night’s appearance. Strahm still managed to finish the outing despite the discomfort, but his absence creates another challenge for a pitching staff already searching for stability.
The roster moves also included Bailey Falter returning from the injured list after completing his rehab assignment, giving the Royals another left-handed option out of the bullpen. However, the focus remains on whether Kansas City can improve its pitching results quickly enough to remain competitive in the division race. As the season progresses, the club’s ability to manage injuries and stabilize the bullpen could play a major role in determining whether the Royals can recover from their uneven start.
