Bobby Witt Jr. has been off to a strong start for the Kansas City Royals this season. Witt Jr. is currently fourth in hits (49), fifth in steals (12) and is hitting .302 on the season. The Colleyville Heritage High School graduate has been on a tear over the last week.

In his last seven games, the 6-foot-1 right-handed hitter was second in the majors in hits, going 11-for-27 at the plate for a .407 batting average. The Texas native also hit three home runs, drove in four RBIs, recorded two doubles, drew two walks and stole two bases. He also tied the Major League lead in runs scored for the week with seven. The two-time Silver Slugger Award winner tied for second in total bases (22) and extra-base hits (5) as well.

The offensive output was strong enough for Major League Baseball to announce Monday that Witt Jr. was named the American League Player of the Week for Week 6, spanning May 4-10. Starting pitcher Cristopher Sánchez of the Philadelphia Phillies was named the National League Player of the Week. The Royals went 4-3 during the week.

Kansas City reacted to the news the same day by going to social media to promote its star being recognized by MLB. In an Instagram post, the Royals shared a picture of Witt Jr. in action, highlighting his Player of the Week honor and posting his stats for the week.

“No doubt about it,” Kansas City wrote. “Bobby Baseball is your American League Player of the Week!”

This is Witt Jr.’s third time winning the award. His previous honors came on May 28 and July 22, 2024.
