Royals reportedly won't move Zack Greinke before trade deadline

The chances of Zack Greinke finishing out his big-league career where it all started nearly 20 years ago may have increased on Tuesday, as it's been reported that the six-time All-Star won't be traded.

Greinke was selected by the Kansas City Royals as the sixth-overall pick during the 2002 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Apopka High School and he spent the first seven seasons of his career with the club from 2004 to 2010. During his days with the club, Greinke earned his first of six All-Star honors and won the 2009 AL Cy Young award.

From 2011 to 2021, the 38-year-old righty pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros. Greinke signed a one-year, $13 million contract to rejoin the Royals in March.

In 17 starts this season, he has gone 3-6 with a 4.41 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, while picking up 50 strikeouts over 87 2/3 innings pitched.
