San Francisco Giants to host 2028 All-Star game

It has been announced that the San Francisco Giants will host the 2028 MLB All-Star game at Oracle Park. This will be the fourth time the franchise hosts the prestigious event.

Its first time hosting the All-Star game was in 1961 at Candlestick Park, and the National League (NL) won 5-4 in 10 innings. Then, in 1984, it hosted its second All-Star Game, once again at Candlestick Park, and the NL won 3-1.

Then, last but not least, in 2007, it held the event at AT&T Park (now called Oracle Park) and the American League (AL) won 5-4. Ichiro Suzuki earned AL MVP, as he went 3-for-3 and hit the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history.

The marquee event will also include the Home Run Derby, the Futures Game and the MLB Draft. In addition, pending that there isn't a lockout next season, the Chicago Cubs are scheduled to host the 2027 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field, the Toronto Blue Jays in 2029 and the Baltimore Orioles in 2030.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Mayor Daniel Lurie spoke about the news and stated, “What we’re really excited about is there will be a big celebration of baseball on the West Coast."

History of 2007 All-Star game and Oracle Park

In 2007, Barry Bonds was the only All-Star representative for the Giants, and it was his 14th and last selection in his iconic career where he got the opportunity to play at home.

As well, Willie Mays, who was Bonds' godfather, was honored with a sentimental pregame tribute, and Vladimir Guerrero Sr. was the Home Run Derby champion.

Oracle Park is established for its defining attributes such as the Coca-Cola bottle slide, McCovey Cove and Triples Alley.
