The Seattle Mariners made their first "big" move of the offseason when they signed veteran infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
Solano's affordability and versatility gives the Mariners a chance to find one more infielder for any of the three needs they had after 2024 ended (first base, second base, third base). And if the organization can free up the salary or make an exception to their self-imposed payroll constraints, they could end up with one of the best free agents available on the market.
The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso have been engaged in contract discussions since the club won the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Alonso has spent his entire six-year career with the Mets and hit at least 34 home runs all those years except for the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. He leads the National League with 226 home runs over that stretch.

Alonso hasn't received the contract offer he's wished from New York. And per a report from Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets are expecting that Alonso won't return to the team. Martino also reported that Alonso doesn't have a deal in place from another organization.

Despite the report of Alonso not having a deal elsewhere, the Toronto Blue Jays are reported to have interest in Alonso. And Seattle might be laying in the wings waiting to pick up the disgruntled slugger.
There's been no concrete reports linking the Mariners to Alonso. And even at a discounted rate he would exceed Seattle's available payroll. But there's reason to expect the Mariners could still be a threat to land him.
Per a story from MLB Trade Rumors, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon from the Athletic reported that there's a third unidentified team that's in the mix for Alonso in addition to Toronto and New York.
There's reason to assume that's the Mariners.
Seattle has been speculated as potential suitors for the former Florida Gator by various insiders such as Jon Heyman throughout the offseason.
The Mariners could free up the necessary salary to sign Alonso via a trade. But a trade that could involve the club freeing up enough payroll could be dependent on when Alex Bregman or Roki Sasaki find their new homes.
By that time, Alonso could be off the market. But if he's still available and Seattle finds a way to open up enough money to attract Alonso to the Pacific Northwest, then the Mariners could change the entire perception of their offseason in one move.

NFL Legend Terry Bradshaw Shares Big Personal News
There is no doubt about Terry Bradshaw being one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. The fact that he led the Pittsburgh Steelers to no less than four Super Bowl wins in the span of six years during the 1970s is an undeniable testament to this fact. Since his retirement in 1983, Bradshaw has been able to establish himself as a top NFL broadcaster. He’s been a staple for “Fox NFL Sunday,” providing his unique brand of commentary since 1994. Bradshaw has not limited himself to sportscasting in his post-NFL career. He’s starred in his own reality show, “The Bradshaw Bunch,” has gotten into horse racing and even has his own small-batch whisky brand, Bradshaw Bourbon. On Wednesday, the 77-year-old shared some big personal news. This comes in the form of his new cookbook, “The Bradshaw Family Cookbook,” which was released on Tuesday. Bradshaw announced it in collaboration with the official Instagram page of his reality show. “From our kitchen to yours The Bradshaw Family Cookbook is here, y’all! “Our new cookbook is packed with recipes full of heart, flavor, and a little Bradshaw fun. What are you most excited to try?” the post read. According to the publisher’s website, the cookbook aims to “celebrate the great American tradition of food, family, and football.” It is authored by Bradshaw himself, along with his wife, Tammy Bradshaw, their daughters, Lacey and Rachel Bradshaw, as well as his son-in-law, chef Noah Hester. The book contains nearly 100 recipes, which range from game-day classics to Southern-style dishes. This includes Terry “Bradshaw Beans,” spicy pork canoes with cilantro sour cream and buttermilk pecan pie, to name a few. As it turns out, Bradshaw is not only a legend on the field and a revered sportscaster. He’s also a whiz in the kitchen, and he’s now sharing his personal recipes with the rest of the world.

Marvin Harrison Jr. brushes off potential Cardinals controversy
Second-year Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. added some muscle weight during the offseason in an attempt to improve after he experienced an up-and-down rookie campaign. However, eyebrows were raised when he recorded just two receptions on five targets for 27 yards in Arizona's 27-22 win over the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Harrison poured cold water over the idea that he cares more about his stats than about the fact that the Cardinals opened the season with back-to-back wins. Marvin Harrison Jr. brushes off "silly conversation" "That’s a silly conversation, really," Harrison responded when asked about the number of passes thrown his way across the season's first two weeks, per Tyler Drake of Arizona Sports. "We’re 2-0. That’s the most important thing. We’ve got a big game this week, so that’s really my only focus. Anybody that’s a competitor loves the game, loves what they do. Everybody wants the ball. They want to impact the game. But most importantly, it’s all about winning." Many expected Harrison would take a major leap this season after the fourth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft finished his debut pro campaign with 62 receptions for 885 yards and eight touchdowns. Thus far, that hasn't happened. In the Cardinals' 20-13 Week 1 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 7, he caught five of six targets for 71 yards and a score. ESPN stats show that second-year New York Giants star Malik Nabers tallied a league-high 25 targets over the first two weeks of the ongoing season. To compare, Harrison enters Week 3 with seven receptions on 11 targets for 98 yards and one touchdown. Marvin Harrison Jr. insists he's happy despite lack of targets "It’s always frustrating when you may not get the impact that you kind of want in the game, especially when you put in so much work," Harrison acknowledged. "I know my process throughout the week and all the work that I put in throughout all season and leading up to the game. When you don’t get the results that you want to impact the game, that kind of is frustrating. But at the end of the day, you’re very happy that we’re 2-0 sitting here and got a victory." Earlier in the week, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray warned that his team must be better about finishing games after Arizona flirted with snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on two occasions. Perhaps part of that process will involve Murray targeting Harrison early and often during this coming Sunday's game at the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers.
Fantasy football Week 3: Five players who could smash their projections
Week 3 is a pivotal week in fantasy football, especially for all the 0-2 owners out there. Thankfully, we're here to help with some under-the-radar smash spots for the Week 3 NFL slate. Bengals QB Jake Browning vs. Vikings PPR projection: 15.8 Browning replaced Joe Burrow last week and finished the game with two passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and 17.7 fantasy points. He won't be able to replicate Burrow's production in this offense, but Browning's aggressiveness gives him huge upside due to the talent surrounding him. Browning faced Brian Flores' defense two years ago and put up 324 passing yards and two touchdowns. Titans RB Tony Pollard vs. Colts PPR projection: 14.7 Pollard is dominating the backfield touches for Tennessee early on. The former Dallas Cowboy has played 89 percent of the offensive snaps through two weeks and already has 39 touches for 181 yards. This is also a much easier matchup against the Colts, which rank 29th in the NFL in yards allowed per rush (5.4) through two games. Vikings RB Jordan Mason vs. Bengals PPR projection: 14.7 This is the moment Mason owners have been waiting for since their draft. The Vikings placed Aaron Jones on injured reserve this week, so Mason is primed to serve as Minnesota's bellcow running back for the next month. He should see 20 touches against a Bengals defense that gave up 17.3 PPR points to Dylan Sampson and 16.9 to Travis Etienne. Fire Mason up as a borderline RB1 this week. Packers WR Matthew Golden vs. Browns PPR projection: 8.8 Golden is off to a slow start with just four targets, two catches and 16 receiving yards through two games, but the breakout performance is coming. The rookie wide receiver played 59 percent of Green Bay's offensive snaps, second behind only Romeo Doubs' 74 percent. Golden leads the NFL in average separation score, per Fantasy Points Data, so we just need Jordan Love to look his way more often. Falcons TE Kyle Pitts vs. Panthers PPR projection: 9.5 Pitts is finally finding some success in this Falcons offense. The first-round pick has 13 targets, 11 catches and 96 receiving yards through two games. He's also played nearly 80 percent of Atlanta's offensive snaps, and his 21 percent target share is the highest of his career. In Carolina's two games this season, the opposing tight end led their team in receiving yards both times. Pitts should feast against these linebackers.
