Seattle Mariners Fall Out Of AL West Lead After Big Loss

It's been a good run for the Seattle Mariners atop the American League West Division standings. But that's over now after Seattle suffered a big blow, losing to the Minnesota Twins 12-6 in extra innings on Friday, May 30.

Carlos Correa's two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning broke a tie, setting up the Twins for a huge six-run outburst. The Twins scored three runs in their half of the ninth inning, then silenced Mariners fans with their 10th-inning antics.

Heading into Saturday's action, the Mariners now sit a half-game behind - who else? - the Houston Astros. Yanier Diaz's game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth carried the Astros over the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Friday.

Cal Raleigh continued his smoking-hot home run pace for Mariners on Friday night

Still, the Mariners had something to smile about despite the setback. Cal Raleigh, the "Big Dumper" himself, broke the record for most home runs by a catcher before the end of May. He slammed two homers at T-Mobile Park, giving him 21 total homers this season, MLB.com reported.

Raleigh's three-run homer in the first inning put Seattle on top, then he added a two-run bomb in the eighth inning.

He now has 11 homers in May alone, which puts him in second place among MLB homer leaders for the month behind Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.

If Raleigh can connect on another dinger or two on Saturday, then his homer numbers will go up, of course. Still, Raleigh probably would have traded his homers for a victory at home on Friday night.
