Fans of the Seattle Mariners have been waiting for an AL West title since the memorable 2001 season that saw their beloved Mariners make MLB history by winning 116 games.
That drought finally came to an end Wednesday night with Seattle's 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. The win for the Mariners clinched their first AL West championship in 24 years.
Seattle used a strong second half to overtake the Houston Astros and secure the division championship and postseason appearance.
It is just the second postseason appearance for the Mariners since the 2001 season.

Seattle got out to an early 1-0 lead thanks in part to home run No. 59 from superstar catcher Cal Raleigh. Raleigh would later hit home run No. 60 on the season, adding to his historic MVP-caliber season.

Luis M. Castillo set the tone on the mound, going 7.1 innings while allowing just one hit, one run and striking out 10 Rockies.
As it stands, the Mariners would finish with the second-best record from a division winner, giving them a first-round bye in the postseason. If that holds, Seattle will host the winner of the wild-card series between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds in the American League.
