After two straight All-Star seasons in 2022 and 2023, Shane McClanahan did not pitch at all in 2024 or 2025 due to injury.
McClanahan is now back, and despite not making the All-Star Game, he’s posted some strong numbers. As the Tampa Bay Rays look to defeat the Baltimore Orioles in Game 2 after a Game 1 loss, McClanahan looks to get the ball. Game 2 should be starting at 7:05 PM ET.
So far in 2026, McClanahan has made 21 starts (102.1 innings), posting an ERA of 3.25 and 1.3 WAR. McClanahan also has a 1.124 WHIP, a 9-6 record, 94 strikeouts, and 35 walks.
In addition to this, McClanahan has a fantastic Baseball Savant pitching run value mark at 15 (91st percentile).
Looking at the Baltimore Orioles, Brandon Young should take the mound. Young has a 3.52 ERA, 1.7 WAR, 1.351 WHIP, 9-3 record, 96 strikeouts, and 42 walks in 117.2 innings (21 starts).
Young isn’t too far off from McClanahan in terms of ERA, but his pitching run value is down at just one (45th percentile).
Brandon Young gets the ball at home, with the Game 2 location being Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Young has a 3.39 ERA and a 2-2 record (63.2 innings) at home this year.
Shane McClanahan, on the other hand, has an ERA up at 4.31 with a 2-5 record in 48 innings during his away games.
