The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the middle of a matchup against the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon, but they’re without superstar Shohei Ohtani for the second straight game after he was briefly removed from the 40-man roster and placed on the paternity list.

While the Dodgers were taking the field, Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko, shared some major personal news: the birth of their first child. The couple announced on Saturday that they welcomed a baby girl.

"Welcome to the Ohtani Family! I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents. I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement."

He continued, "I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day."

Many fans reacted to the amazing news:

"Congratulations to Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko on the birth of their daughter," the MLB posted

"Congratulations to the Ohtani family!!! All the best!" A fan said

"Oh, that's awesome. Congratulations!" Someone else added.

One more fan commented, "Hoping Roki Sasaki throws a gem to celebrate the new baby Congratulations."

Since arriving in Major League Baseball from Japan, Shohei Ohtani has become a cornerstone of the league and is widely regarded as the face of baseball at just 30 years old. He played a key role in helping lead the Dodgers to a World Series title last season, and with the team off to a strong 15–6 start this year, Ohtani is expected to return to the lineup within the next few days.
