The Los Angeles Dodgers are back to their winning ways.
After suffering back-to-back losses at the hands of the New York Mets to end a three-game series over the weekend, Shohei Ohtani and the reigning World Series champions took care of business in the series opener on the road on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Los Angeles’ 7-2 win over the Guardians had the fingerprints of superstar designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto all over it, as they played key roles in their team’s success.
Ohtani put the Dodgers on the board first with a solo home run that went 378 feet deep in the first inning. He finished 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.
Yamamoto, on the other hand, pitched for six innings and allowed just two earned runs on three hits with seven punchouts through 88 pitches. Los Angeles’ bullpen did the rest of the work on the mound, as Yamamoto got his sixth win in the 2025 MLB regular season.
Ohtani was impressed with Yamamoto’s performance, as he shared a graphic that summed up the hurler’s solid night.

Yamamoto has pitched for at least six frames in each of his last three starts, showing his lasting power on the mound when it’s his time to see action.
In five starts in May, the 26-year-old Yamamoto has come up with a 3-1 record to go with a 3.00 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP through 30.0 innings. Overall this season, Yamamoto carries a 6-3 record, a 1.97 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.
