LOS ANGELES – As the Arizona Diamondbacks prepare to head to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers, speculation surrounds one of their top prospects being called up from Triple-A Reno.

Jordan Lawlar, the No. 1 prospect in the D-Backs organization and the No. 23 prospect in the MLB, might be getting an opportunity to get some big league appearances here soon. The Reno Aces last night posted their lineup card, but Jordan Lawlar’s name was missing, as some speculated he would be joining the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles. Pavin Smith recently was injured as he was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Smith will most likely head to the 10-day IL, and that would free up a roster spot for Lawlar, but to what extent will his usage be?

The D-Backs are seeing a surge from one of their other young prospect, Blaze Alexander. So the question might be, where will Jordan Lawlar fit in? In the last seven games, Alexander has a .345 on-base percentage and a .577 slugging percentage, along with seven hits and two home runs. With Geraldo Perdomo locked down at second base, the question is whether Lawlar will get mainly opportunities at the designated hitter role or will he take playing time away from Blaze Alexander if he does get called up.

D-Backs fans on the possible return of Jordan Lawlar:

If Jordan Lawlar does return, there will be a lot of discussions around where he plays, how much time he will get, and if he can eventually succeed at the major league level for the Diamondbacks.
