Gary Sánchez launched a grand slam in the seventh inning. At the same time, Ramón Urías and Jordan Westburg also homered as the Baltimore Orioles completed a dominant three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with an 11-2 win on Sunday.
Cade Povich picked up his first victory since April 24, working 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief as the Orioles notched their third series sweep of the season—all coming in the last five matchups. Baltimore (30-40) has climbed to within 10 games of the .500 mark for the first time since mid-May.
Nolan Schanuel provided an early spark for Los Angeles with a solo home run in the top of the first, but Urías answered with a two-run shot in the bottom half to put the Orioles ahead for good.
Baltimore stretched its 3-2 lead in the sixth, capitalizing on a throwing error by Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi (2-6). After Gary Sánchez singled with two outs, Cedric Mullins laid down a bunt that Kikuchi fielded and threw down the right-field line, allowing Sánchez to score. Coby Mayo followed with an RBI double to make it 5-2.
Sánchez broke the game open an inning later, crushing a two-out, bases-loaded fastball from Connor Brogdon to deep left-center for his sixth career grand slam and first since 2023. It was Baltimore’s third slam of the season.
Westburg added a two-run homer in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Kikuchi struck out 10 but gave up five runs (three earned) over 5 2/3 innings, his highest run total allowed this season.
With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh, Baltimore’s Seranthony Domínguez struck out Jo Adell and pinch-hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. to escape the jam and preserve a three-run lead.
The Orioles improved to 20-6 against the Angels since the start of 2022, including a 5-1 mark this season.
The Angels travel to New York on Monday to begin a four-game series against the Yankees, with José Soriano (4-5, 3.86 ERA) set to start. Baltimore heads to Tampa Bay for a four-game series, with unannounced pitching plans.
