Sorry Canada Yankees Say No Entry to ALDS in the Bronx

Turns out the Yankees are charging a tariff of their own — admission.

Canadian Blue Jays fans hoping to watch October baseball in the Bronx are finding themselves blocked at the ticket booth, according to CBC News. Ticketmaster is restricting sales for next week’s potential American League Division Series games at Yankee Stadium to residents of just four states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

That means if your billing address is north of the border, your order gets canceled and refunded. No exceptions.

Why Blue Jays Fans Can’t Buy Yankees Playoff Tickets

The Yankees say the rule is meant to fight scalpers, keeping bulk ticket buyers from snapping up seats and flipping them for profit. But it also leaves Toronto's supporters locked out of what could be their first chance to see the club win a postseason game since 2016.

Which States Can Buy ALDS Tickets at Yankee Stadium

For now, only residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania can purchase tickets to ALDS Games 3 and 4. Everyone else — including Canadians who routinely make up a huge share of the Yankee Stadium crowd — is out.

Have Other Teams Blocked Out-of-Town Fans Before

This isn’t the first time MLB teams have walled off their ticket sales. Other franchises have used similar residency rules during the playoffs, usually under the banner of fighting scalpers. Boston confirmed it will not impose restrictions at Fenway Park if the ALDS shifts there.

What It Means for Blue Jays Fans This Postseason

Toronto clinched the AL East for the first time since 2015 with a 94-68 record, edging the Yankees thanks to a head-to-head tiebreaker. That put them directly into the Division Series, while New York faces Boston in the wild-card round. Game 3 is set for Oct. 7. If it lands in the Bronx, Canadian fans will be left outside.

Could the Yankees Face Backlash for Banning Canadian Fans

Red Sox fans have already blasted the same restriction on social media. For Jays fans, it stings even more. The team is riding high, but their most loyal supporters will need to stay home and watch on TV — victims of a policy dressed up as anti-scalping, but feeling an awful lot like a border wall.
