Bobby Jenks, a name synonymous with the Chicago White Sox's 2005 World Series victory, faces his most formidable opponent off the field - Stage 4 stomach cancer.

This shocking revelation, disclosed by MLB.com's Scott Merkin in an article published Saturday afternoon, has sent ripples through the baseball community, especially among Chicago sports fans and teammates who recall Jenks as a key force in clinching the World Series title.

Having left a permanent mark in the White Sox history books, Jenks' journey from a dominant closer to battling a life-threatening disease is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Diagnosed earlier this year, Jenks has been open about the challenges he faces, indicating a spirit unbowed by his critical condition. He is currently being treated in Portugal after moving overseas to be closer to his wife's family.

“Now it’s time to do what I got to do to get myself better and get myself more time, however you want to look at it. I’ll tell you one thing: I’m not going to die here in Portugal." Jenks told Merkin.

Throughout his tenure with the White Sox, Jenks was celebrated for his high-velocity fastball and fearless demeanor on the mound, eventually becoming one of the White Sox all-time saves leaders. Yet, his journey was not without struggles, including health issues and surgeries that have plagued him since leaving Major League Baseball in 2011.

Jenks recently completed his first full season as manager of the Windy City Thunderbolts. As of now, he is still listed as the team's manager.

As Jenks confronts this challenging phase, his story goes beyond baseball. It's a sobering reminder of life's fragility and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. For fans, teammates, and the broader baseball community, Jenks' battle with cancer serves as a rallying cry for solidarity, hope, and support. Seeing him overcome cancer would undoubtedly be the biggest save of his life.
