Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider recently spoke with 105.5 The Roar, the flagship station for Clemson Athletics, reflecting on his recovery after undergoing ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) surgery in his right elbow during the 2024 season. Strider, a proud Clemson alum, shared the challenges of his rehab process and how he’s using this time to grow both mentally and physically.
“The rehab process is very much a mental exercise and mental strain over a long period of time,” Strider said. “You can’t rely on the physical feedback you’re used to, so you really have to focus on improving mentally. It’s not just about getting your body back, but also about using this time to grow on and off the field.”
Strider explained that throughout the recovery process, he has focused on self-improvement, learning how to confront discomfort in order to grow. “It’s about having a purpose behind everything, whether you’re on the field or off the field,” he added. “It requires purposeful action and learning to do the uncomfortable things that lead to real growth.”
As Strider’s recovery progresses, he remains optimistic about returning to the mound later this season. He also expressed excitement about the Braves’ 2025 prospects, pointing to younger pitchers such as Grant Holmes and Spencer Schwellenbach, who have impressed during spring training.
Looking ahead, Strider emphasized the importance of staying focused on improvement throughout the season. “Our goal is to be the best version of ourselves by October,” he said. “That’s what we’re focusing on.”
As Strider prepares for his return, Braves fans are eager to see him back on the mound, ready to make an impact as the team looks to make a push for another successful season. With his dedication to both recovery and team growth, Strider remains an essential piece of the Braves' pitching staff for the 2025 season.
