Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt remains confident in his team after Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays tied the American League Championship Series at two games apiece. Cleveland now faces a best-of-three stretch, with Game 5 scheduled for Sunday at Progressive Field.
The Guardians entered Game 4 with a 2-1 series lead and an opportunity to move within one win of the World Series. Instead, Tampa Bay responded with its strongest offensive performance of the series to even the matchup.
Despite the setback, Vogt believes Cleveland can win the series, regardless of the opponent.
Vogt on G’s-Rays tied at 2-2 in the ALCS: “We’re right in this thing. We’re even. It’s a three-game series. I’d put our guys up against any team in the world in a three-game series.”

“We’re right in this thing. We’re even. It’s a three-game series. I’d put our guys up against any team in the world in a three-game series,” Vogt said, according to Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The Guardians will need to respond after Tampa Bay’s offense broke through in Game 4. Jonathan Aranda recorded three hits and two RBIs, while Yandy Díaz hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Junior Caminero also delivered the go-ahead double as the Rays turned a close contest into a four-run victory.
Nick Martinez helped set the tone for Tampa Bay, allowing one run over 5 1/3 innings. The Rays’ offense had struggled to produce consistently earlier in the series, making the victory important as the matchup enters its final stretch.
Cleveland’s regular-season record provides context for its postseason position. The Guardians finished 85-77 and won the American League Central, while Tampa Bay went 98-64 and claimed the AL East title. The Rays entered the postseason as the American League’s top seed, but Cleveland has shown it can compete with them in a closely contested series.
The Guardians now have another opportunity to take the lead in Game 5 before the series shifts to Tampa Bay. Parker Messick is expected to start for Cleveland, while the Rays are expected to turn to Drew Rasmussen.
With the series tied, Vogt’s confidence will need to translate into a response on the field. A Game 5 victory would put either team one win away from the American League pennant and a World Series matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers.
