As the Cleveland Guardians prepare for their matchup against the Seattle Mariners, early-season injuries have already become a concern. Cleveland is coming off a strong 2025 campaign, winning the AL Central and securing the No. 3 seed in the American League. However, their postseason run ended in disappointment with a 2-1 series loss to the Detroit Tigers in the AL Wild Card round.
The Guardians leaned on standout performances all year long from ace right-handed pitcher Tanner Bibee and third baseman Jose Ramirez who delivered exceptional all-around production throughout the season.
Bibee’s health quickly became the storyline on Opening Day, even after rookie Chase DeLauter crushed two home runs during Cleveland's 6-4 victory. The mood shifted when Bibee left in the sixth inning with trainers after allowing four hits, three home runs and striking out seven.
Fortunately, Friday’s update indicated the injury is not believed to be serious, a positive development for the Guardians. Cleveland will continue to monitor him moving forward (h/t Tom Withers, AP).
Tanner Bibee's shoulder issue doesn't appear serious at this point. Guardians will re-evaluate him today.

Cautious approach likely warranted and so it's possible Logan Allen could take his spot if rest required.
This situation carries added importance for Cleveland, especially if they will start pitcher Logan Allen, who was recently reassigned to the minors despite showing promise in previous seasons. With an injury occurring this early in the year, there is uncertainty surrounding how it could impact the team’s rotation moving forward.
Bibee was a reliable arm last season, finishing with a 12-11 record, a 4.24 ERA, 182.1 innings pitched, 162 strikeouts and a 1.23 WHIP. He provided consistency and durability, often giving the Guardians quality outings and stability on the mound. His ability to limit damage and work deep into games made him a key part of the rotation.
If he is forced to miss time, Cleveland may need to rely on younger pitchers or depth options to fill the gap. That could test the team early as it looks to maintain momentum and remain competitive in the AL Central.
A former Cal State Fullerton standout and fifth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, Bibee has developed into a key piece of the Guardians’ rotation, validating the promise he showed in college.
His arsenal is highlighted by an elite slider, featuring sharp movement and swing-and-miss ability, paired with strong fastball command that allows him to consistently attack the strike zone.
He complements those pitches with an effective changeup, giving him balance against both right and left-handed hitters.
In March 2025, he signed a five-year, $48 million contract extension through 2029, with a club option for 2030, signaling the organization’s long-term commitment. If he misses time, Allen could be called upon to step into a larger role. That would test Guardians’ depth, but also provide Allen an opportunity to prove he can contribute to the team’s plans.
