The Texas Rangers were one of a handful of teams that were looking for a new manager after relieving Bruce Bochy from his role. They did not waste any time in terms of making a decision as they have officially named the franchise’s 21st full-time manager. Let’s take a closer look at who the Texas Rangers selected for the position and what it means for the offseason and the 2026 season going forward.

Texas Rangers Hire Skip Schumaker as Manager

The Texas Rangers have officially named Skip Schumaker as the team’s manager less than a week after moving on from Bruce Bochy. He has transitioned well to a managerial position following his retirement as a player as he has spent two years with the Miami Marlins, posting a 146-178 record with the team. Schumaker won the 2023 National League Manager of the Year Award after leading the Marlins to the postseason in his first year with the team and being a manager.

Schumaker spent the 2025 season inside the Texas Rangers organization as a special assistant to the team, meaning he has a relationship with general manager Chris Young. The team has some questions, as the only starting pitchers under contract that were under MLB contracts are Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, and Jacob Latz. Schumaker is still a young manager, so he has the ability to connect with some of the younger talent and get respect from veterans on the roster as well.

With the Texas Rangers looking to make some noise this offseason to get back into the postseason, they have already locked up one of the most respected managerial candidates available, while also not having to go through much of an adjustment period with the front office. This has the potential to be a home run for the team as he is signed for four seasons to be the skipper of the team.
