Texas Rangers Roster Moves 5/21

Before the three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Texas Rangers announced that infielder Davis Wendzel was being optioned back to the Round Rock Express. He does, however, remain on the 40-man roster. The Rangers also selected the contract of outfielder Derek Hill from the Round Rock Express and, in a corresponding 40-man roster move, placed right-handed pitcher Austin Pruitt on the 60-day injured list due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

By the Numbers

INF Davis Wendzel

Wendzel has appeared in 17 games for the Texas Rangers since he debuted on April 9th, 2024. Across those 17 games, he has had 29 at-bats in which he had two hits, one of which was a home run that resulted in one run and two RBIs. He has not had any further success at the plate since his debut. His current Major League slash line is .069/.069/.172.

OF Derek Hill

Hill began his Major League career with the Detroit Tigers in 2020 and remained with the team until 2022. He spent the 2023 season with the Washington Nationals. His career slash line is .229/.279/.314 with 33 runs, 64 hits, six doubles, three triples, four home runs, 18 RBIs, 19 walks, ten stolen bases, and 87 strikeouts across 108 appearances and 280 at-bats in his four-year MLB career.

He has been in Round Rock this season and is currently slashing a .333/.387/.395 with 30 runs, 43 hits, ten doubles, four triples, 16 RBIs, eight home runs, nine walks, six stolen bases, and 35 strikeouts across 34 appearances and 129 at-bats.

RHP Austin Pruitt

Pruitt began his Major League career with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017 and remained with the team until 2021 when he was traded to the Oakland Athletics. He remained in Oakland until he became a free agent at the end of the 2023 season. The Texas Rangers signed him to a Minor League contract during his free agency. He has a career W/L record of 14-16 with an ERA of 4.54 across 154 appearances, 17 of which were starts, eight held leads, six saves and 11 save opportunities. In 315.0 innings of work he allowed 329 hits, 174 runs, 159 earned runs, 46 home runs, 74 walks, six intentional walks, and 221 strikeouts.
