The '200-win, 3K-strikeout pitchers' quiz

Happy 60th birthday to eight-time All-Star, four-time Cy Young winner, 1995 World Series champion and 18-time Gold Glover, Greg Maddux!

Maddux was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 1984 MLB Draft out of high school, and by 1986 he was pitching in the Major Leagues. By 1988 he made his first All-Star team – his first of two appearances at the Midsummer Classic as a Cub – and in his last three seasons at Wrigley he led the National League in games started.

But it was when he joined the Atlanta Braves for the 1993 season that he established himself as one of the best and most consistent pitchers in baseball. He had the lowest ERA in MLB three times from 1993-95, posting a sub-2.00 ERA in both 1994 and 1995. In the Braves run to the 1995 World Series title, he started five games between the NLCS and World Series, he went 3-1 with 19 strikeouts and a 2.84 ERA with a complete game thrown in.

Even today, the Class of 2014 Baseball Hall of Famer is still remembered on the rare occasions that a pitcher throws a complete game with fewer than 100 pitches.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Maddux’s longevity and effectiveness helped make him one of the most decorated pitchers in history and one of 20 to both win 200 games and strike out 3,000 batters. How many of those 20 players can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
