The 'A.L. and N.L. MVPs since 2000' quiz

Before Hall of Famer Jeff Kent was a 20th-round MLB Draft pick or MLB’s all-time leader in home runs for second basemen, he was a high schooler whose dad promised him a truck if he got a scholarship to play college baseball. 

“That truck is still with me,” Kent said at his induction into Cooperstown. 

“It sits in my garage as a simple reminder that some of the simplest things can change the entire direction of your life.”

Kent made his MLB debut in 1992 with the Toronto Blue Jays and established himself as a serviceable MLB hitter after being traded to the New York Mets that season. He’d go on to make five All-Star teams, win four Silver Sluggers and win the National League MVP with the San Francisco Giants in 2000. He hit .334 with 33 homers and 125 RBIs in 159 games despite sharing not only a league but team with Barry Bonds. 

Kent finally spent time in Houston and Los Angeles to close out his MLB career, finishing with 2,461 hits, 377 home runs and 1,518 RBI.
