Happy 51st birthday to four-time MLB All-Star, 2010 National League Comeback Player of the Year and 2014 World Series champion, Tim Hudson!
Hudson made his Major League debut on June 8, 1999 with the Oakland Athletics and immediately established himself as a Big Leaguer. He went 11-2 in 21 starts with a 3.23 ERA and 132 strikeouts to finish fifth in American League Rookie of the Year voting despite his abbreviated season.
He made his first All-Star game in 2000 and finished the year with 20 wins – most in the American League and second in all of baseball behind Tom Glavine’s 21. Hudson was traded to the Braves ahead of the 2005 campaign, where he’d spend the longest stretch with one team of his career. He spent the next nine seasons in Atlanta, going 113-72 with 997 strikeouts and a 3.56 ERA.
He joined the San Francisco Giants as a free agent for 2014, posting another serviceable regular season despite struggling a bit in the playoffs en route to his lone World Series championship.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the pitchers to lead the American League in wins for each season since 2000 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
