The 'MLB all-time strikeout leaders' quiz

Happy birthday to nine-time MLB All-Star and Gold Glover, two-time National League Cy Young winner, two time World Series champion and 1968 MVP, Bob Gibson!

Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1935, Gibson spent his entire Hall of Fame career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Gibson was one of the most dominant pitchers of all time, leading all of baseball in WAR three times, posting a 1.12 ERA in the “Year of the Pitcher,” in 1968 and tossing 255 complete games and striking out 3,117 batters. 

He led the Cardinals to two World Series titles in his 17-year career, winning World Series MVP in both 1964 and 1967. In 1967 not only did he throw three complete games against Boston, he also hit a home run to lead them to a title in seven games. 

Gibson played until 1975 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981. He passed away in 2020 at 84 years old. 

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Gibson’s 3,117 strikeouts are the 15th-most in MLB history. With that being said, can you name the MLB pitchers to strike out at least 2,500 batters?
