The 'Most 200-K MLB seasons' quiz

After forcing the Los Angeles Dodgers to extra-innings in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, 2026 has been a season to forget for both Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays

But sitting in last place in the American League East and seven-games under .500, Scherzer took the mound and made history against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. The future Hall of Famer threw 5 1/3 innings of four-strikeout, shutout ball until surrendering back-to-back homers to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper.

Before allowing the dingers, Scherzer struck out Kyle Schwarber for his fourth K of the evening and 3,516th of his career to pass the legendary Walter Johnson for 10th-most in MLB history.

The Blue Jays went on to win 7-5 and take the series from the Phillies ahead of the finale on Sunday. Their next opponent is the scorching-hot Boston Red Sox, who were 27-5 since the start of July heading into their final game against the Athletics.

Scherzer has been limited to just 36 innings in his age-41 season, and if this is the end, he’s already an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young winner and two-time World Series champion. His spot in Cooperstown is booked.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Scherzer has eclipsed the 200-strikeout milestone nine times, the fifth-most in baseball history. With that being said, can you name every pitcher with at least five 200-K seasons in their career?

Good luck!
