When you think of the 2025 Chicago White Sox, you probably wouldn't associate them with ... dominance.
That's what makes their 8-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday such a statistical oddity: It was Chicago's fifth win of seven or more runs this season, tied with their crosstown rivals (the Cubs) for the most such wins in 2025.

Of course, no one will confuse the 2025 White Sox with the 1927 "Murderer's Row" Yankees, but this is nonetheless an impressive feat coming off a historically futile 2024 season that resulted in a 41-121 finish.
And it's not like the White Sox made drastic upgrades to their lineup this past offseason, either (unless you're a Josh Rojas, Austin Slater, Mike Tauchman or Michael A. Taylor fan). The White Sox do have some intriguing hitting prospects in the minor leagues, but they've yet to surface at Rate Field, with the exception of second baseman Chase Meidroth.
It's all the more surprising that the White Sox have pulled this off without much contribution from star outfielder Luis Robert Jr., who's hitting just .183 with four home runs and a .622 OPS (though he does have 13 stolen bases). Ditto veteran outfielder Andrew Benintendi, who has a more respectable .733 OPS but is hitting just .231 with five home runs otherwise.
Want even more intrigue? The White Sox ranked last in MLB in team OPS heading into play on May 1, sitting at a meager .620. That's simply unheard of for a team that has somehow won the majority of its games by five or more runs this season.
But as Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black has been known to say, "That's baseball."
