The Cincinnati Reds, looking to make just their second playoff appearance in the last 12 seasons, enter 2025 with a roster primed to breakout.
With a plethora of young talent, including shortstop Elly De La Cruz and right-handed pitcher Hunter Greene, the Reds can make some noise in the National League Central.
Here are three Reds players to watch during spring training.
2024 MLB stats: 9-6, 4.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 122 strikeouts over 115.1 innings
After an impressive 2022 rookie year, Reds lefty pitcher Nick Lodolo looked like a future frontline starter.
Due to injuries that have limited him to only 28 starts over the past two seasons, the 27-year-old must demonstrate that he can stay healthy and improve his performance on the mound if he hopes to regain that role.
After finishing his debut season with a 3.66 ERA, 1.248 WHIP and 131 strikeouts over 103.1 innings, Lodolo threw only 149.2 innings over the last two seasons combined, posting a 5.11 ERA, 1.323 WHIP and 169 strikeouts in that span.
With two more years of arbitration, Lodolo's time with the Reds could end if he can't turn things around in 2025.
2023 MLB stats: .290/.357/.507, 16 home runs, 50 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 89 games
Bursting onto the scene in 2023, Reds second baseman Matt McLain put up a solid rookie campaign with 43 extra-base hits, 50 RBI and 65 runs in 89 games before injuries ended his season.
Primed to breakout in 2024, McLain unfortunately suffered a shoulder injury in spring training and missed the entire season. Now fully healthy, the 25-year-old is looking to continue to be a force at the plate.
Slotted to hit near the top of the Reds' lineup, don't be surprised if McLain is amongst the league leaders in hits or runs when the 2025 season concludes.

2024 MLB stats: .251/.320/.383, 10 home runs and 50 RBI in 139 games
Once rated as one of the top prospects in baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Reds second baseman Gavin Lux hopes that a change of scenery can help relaunch his career in 2025.
Set to take over as Dodgers shortstop in 2023 after Trea Turner signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency, Lux suffered a freak injury running the bases in spring training that cost him the entire season.
After winning a World Series with the Dodgers, Lux was dealt to the Reds in the offseason.
Thanks to a crowded infield that includes De La Cruz, McLain, Noelvi Marte and Santiago Espinal, Lux will have to earn playing time with his new team.
