Three-time All-Star Anthony Rizzo makes free agency decision with multi-year deal

Anthony Rizzo is re-signing with the New York Yankees.

The three-time All-Star hit 32 home runs for the Yankees in 2022. In 465 at-bats, he had an average of .224, scored 77 runs and produced 75 RBI.

There were reports the Houston Astros would make a push to sign the 12-year MLB veteran. With the multi-year signing, Rizzo will likely finish his career in New York.

He began his career in 2011 with the San Diego Padres when he played in 49 games. He was traded in the offseason to the Chicago Cubs, where he experienced great success. In 10 seasons, he hit 242 home runs and batted .272. He also was one of the leaders on the Cubs' 2016 World Series team.

He was traded to the Yankees during the 2021 season. In 179 career games with the Yankees, Rizzo has 40 home runs on a .230 batting average.

The Yankees will be happy to keep Rizzo and hope it's the start of a trend of re-signing their own free agents this offseason. Aaron Judge is one of the most prominent MLB free agents ever, and his decision on where to sign could shift the balance of power in baseball.

Rizzo's signing doesn't do that, but it shows us the Yankees will do everything they can to run it back with their core.
