Detroit Tigers top prospect Jackson Jobe reached another important milestone Tuesday, beginning a minor league rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland as he continues recovering from Tommy John surgery. The outing marks his first appearance in a competitive game since undergoing the procedure in June 2025.

The Tigers are expected to ease Jobe back with a lengthy buildup rather than rushing him through the system. His first appearance is expected to last around one inning or roughly 15 to 20 pitches before the club gradually increases his workload over the coming weeks.

Jobe remains one of baseball's highest-rated young pitchers despite missing significant time. The 23-year-old entered the 2025 season as MLB Pipeline's No. 5 overall prospect and Detroit's top-ranked prospect after emerging as one of the organization's cornerstone arms.

According to MLB.com beat writer Jason Beck, Jobe began his rehab assignment Tuesday night with Lakeland and is expected to undergo a lengthy buildup as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Detroit followed a cautious progression before clearing him for game action. Jobe advanced from flat-ground throwing to bullpen sessions before facing live hitters over the past several weeks.

The organization is expected to keep him with Lakeland for multiple outings before considering promotions to Double-A Erie and potentially Triple-A Toledo later in the rehab process.

Before reaching the majors, Jobe established himself as one of the game's premier pitching prospects with a deep arsenal highlighted by a mid-to-upper-90s fastball, a power slider and several polished secondary pitches.

Tuesday's assignment is the first step in Detroit's long-term plan to return one of its most important young arms. If he progresses without setbacks, Jobe could advance through the minor league system later this summer as the Tigers continue prioritizing his health.
