Tigers place OF Riley Greene (hamstring) on IL

Detroit Tigers All-Star outfielder Riley Greene was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right hamstring strain.

Greene left Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early after being hit by a pitch.

He fell to the ground after taking a Tanner Bibee pitch off his lower right leg in the second inning. Greene stayed in the game and scored the game's first run on a double by Spencer Torkelson.

But when the Tigers took the field in the top of the third, rookie Ben Malgeri assumed Greene's spot in left field, and immediately after the game, manager A.J. Hinch ruled out playing Greene in Wednesday's game.

"When the lineup comes out, he's not going to be in it. I'm not even going to consider it," Hinch said Tuesday night.

Greene, who earned his third consecutive All-Star Game nod in July, has played in 117 of the Tigers' 119 games this season. He owns a .273/.366/.450 slash line with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs.

In corresponding moves on Wednesday, the Tigers selected the contract of outfielder Corey Julks from Triple-A Toledo, and right-handed pitcher Troy Watson was designated for assignment.

The 30-year-old Julks made his major league debut with Houston in 2023 and batted .245 with six homers, 33 RBIs and 15 steals in 93 games before splitting the past three seasons between the minors and majors.

Julks makes his debut with the Tigers after batting .273 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs in 86 games with the Mud Hens this season.

Watson never made it to the mound for the Tigers after being added to the 40-man roster in July. The 29-year-old is expected to clear waivers and return to Toledo.

Additionally, left-handed pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus was activated off the paternity list and righty Yilber Diaz was optioned to Triple-A.
