Whenever Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera finally notches career hit No. 3,000, the achievement certainly will have been worth the wait.
As noted by The Detroit News , Friday evening's game between the Tigers and Colorado Rockies scheduled to take place at Comerica Park was postponed due to inclement weather. ESPN's Marly Rivera offered more information:
Miguel Cabrera's chase for 3,000 will continue tomorrow, as tonight's Tigers-Rockies has been officially rained out. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow: 1:10pm and 6:40pm ET. https://t.co/YjCjq2MglU

It's yet another cruel blow for Cabrera, who began the Thursday afternoon home outing against the New York Yankees sitting on 2,999 hits and then went 0-for-3 across his first three at-bats. He made his final trip to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning but never received an opportunity to swing his bat, as Yankees manager Aaron Boone intentionally walked the two-time Most Valuable Player for a more favorable matchup.
Fans booed Boone's decision, but Cabrera made it clear after the 3-0 victory he had no problem with the move.
"I know history is very important," Cabrera said Thursday afternoon. "But we need to win first. It's not about me. It's about the team."
The official Tigers' Twitter account jokingly referenced Thursday's events after confirming Friday's game was scrapped:
