The Detroit Tigers hold a 2-1 record heading into their upcoming series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ahead of the series, Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris provided injury updates on pitchers Troy Melton and Jackson Jobe.
"Tigers president of baseball ops Scott Harris told @MLBNetworkRadio he expects Troy Melton (elbow inflammation) and Jackson Jobe (Tommy John rehab) to pitch for them this season, Melton first, then Jobe. 'Jackson will be available hopefully in August for us,'" Jason Beck reported.
Detroit is looking to win the American League Central and then make a deep postseason run in October. While pitchers such as Tarik Skubal and Framber Valdez will lead the way, every ball club knows that pitching depth is of the utmost importance.
Melton, 25, and Jobe, 23, are both young pitchers who feature potential.
Melton made his MLB debut in 2025 and ultimately pitched to a strong 2.76 ERA across 16 total outings (four starts). He can make an impact in multiple roles. According to Harris, Melton will return before Jobe.
Jobe, meanwhile, made his MLB debut in 2024 but appeared in only two games. He then pitched in 10 games (all starts) in 2025. Overall, he holds a 3.91 big league ERA. The fact that Jobe is expected to pitch this season after his Tommy John surgery recovery is certainly encouraging.
The Tigers will not rush either pitcher back into action. They are surely excited for both of them to return, but patience will be crucial as the pitchers look to build up to help the ball club in 2026.
The team will provide further updates on Melton and Jobe as they are made available.

“Jackson will be available hopefully in August for us.”
Overall, this Tigers ball club has a talented team. The starting pitching is extremely capable while the lineup has continued to improve. The bullpen does not receive much attention, but it also features plenty of talent.
Winning the AL Central is realistic after the Cleveland Guardians earned the division title a season ago. Cleveland and the Kansas City Royals could challenge Detroit for the division, but the Tigers are probably in the best position to earn the division title in 2026.
At the moment, the Tigers are focused on their upcoming series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. It is a three-game series that will be played from Monday through Wednesday. Monday night's first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM EST in Arizona.
