The Toronto Blue Jays are a team on the rise. With the entire country of Canada as a fan base, they have the wherewithal to truly become a big-market franchise. Their run to the brink of clinching the World Series has definitely enhanced the popularity of the brand. The Blue Jays are hoping to go one step better this year after making numerous signings this winter.

Meanwhile, hosting an MLB All-Star Game at Rogers Centre in the near future is another major aspiration for the Toronto Blue Jays. According to general manager Mark Shapiro, the Blue Jays have already filed an application to host the Midsummer Classic. The MLB has not yet confirmed due to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, so their chance should come soon after the event.

“It’s been put, frankly, on hold, due to the Olympics,” Shapiro said, as per The Athletic. “Things just keep coming up. They keep pushing us a little further in the queue. But we have an application in.

“We’re going to have an All-Star Game here. It’s just a question of when.”

Toronto hosted their only All-Star Game at Rogers Centre in 1991. Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia will have this year’s edition, with Chicago’s Wrigley Field hosting the next one. The MLB could decide to replace the Midsummer Classic with the Olympics in 2028. Therefore, 2029 is the earliest possible year for the Blue Jays to host the showpiece event.

Blue Jays Keen To Make Rogers Centre a WBC Venue

Mark Shapiro also stated that the Toronto Blue Jays want Rogers Centre to be one of the venues for the World Baseball Classic. The indoor arena hosted pool games during the 2009 WBC.

“I think it makes complete sense to host some round of the WBC,” Shapiro said. “We’d have interest in that. I think that would be great for this city.”

However, the timing of the tournament means there will be a lack of practice fields available. Besides, the weather in Toronto during early spring is not ideal for outdoor training. Therefore, teams will have to practice indoors at Rogers Centre during daytime.
