The Blue Jays agreed to a monster contract for Guerrero for the 2025 season, avoiding arbitration, which is a good sign for the current contract extension negotiations, as the two parties were at least able to agree on a price for the 2025 season.
This new contract for Guerrero made history as it is the third highest contract in MLB history to avoid arbitration behind Juan Soto's $31.5 million and Shohei Ohtani's $30 million.
This is a good indicator that Guerrero's next contract, whether it is with the Blue Jays or another team, will likely pay his an average salary of above $30 million per season.
Guerrero is still looking for a contract worth at least $450 million, which he is hoping the Blue Jays will offer him, but he has made it clear that he has no problem holding out until free agency next off-season.
A free agent after the season, Guerrero Jr. has said he won't negotiate a new contract beyond the beginning of spring training, which is in five weeks. According to recent reports, the two sides are at least $100 million apart in talks, with Guerrero Jr. wanting at least $450 million. -Farkas
The Blue Jays need to find a way to keep him in Toronto, as letting him go will only end hurting the team's future.
