Trea Turner took responsibility for the Philadelphia Phillies’ offensive struggles after their season ended Thursday with a 6-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series.

Turner was asked why the Phillies’ offensive production dropped this season. His answer was brief and direct.

“Me. It’s that simple,” Turner said, according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The Phillies entered the postseason after finishing 88-74, six games behind the 94-68 Braves in the NL East. Philadelphia forced a decisive Game 3 by winning 4-3 in 10 innings Wednesday, but Atlanta closed out the series with a four-run victory at Truist Park.

Turner finished the regular season with a .242 batting average, 19 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .675 OPS across 157 games. Those numbers represented a significant drop from his 2025 season, when he hit .304 with 15 home runs, 69 RBIs and a .812 OPS.

The shortstop’s struggles continued into the postseason. Turner went 1-for-10 across the three-game series, finishing with a .100 average and a .382 OPS.

Turner acknowledged that he has work to do after a season that fell well short of his previous offensive standard. “I think this year is the biggest question mark for me offensively in a long time. I’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.

The Phillies will now enter the offseason after their fourth consecutive postseason appearance ended before the NLDS. Turner remains under contract through 2033 on his 11-year, $300 million deal, giving Philadelphia a long-term commitment to its shortstop as the organization evaluates what went wrong in 2026.
