The timing of Trey Yesavage’s call-up is impeccable, as he ranks as our best Toronto Blue Jays prospect.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual mid-season prospect list, where we’ll take a look at the 50 best prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players.
It’s been a whirlwind of a season for the right-handed pitcher, culminating in a call-up to the big leagues in the middle of September. Even before the news broke, Yesavage was our top-rated prospect thanks to great results at all four levels this season. If you missed who ranked as our second-best prospect, you can read about JoJo Parker here.
Position: Starting pitcher
Throws: Right
Born: July 28th, 2003
Acquired: First round, 2024 MLB Draft
Previous ranking: Fifth (2025 pre-season)
Yesavage spent three seasons at East Carolina University. His first season saw him pitch exclusively out of the bullpen, moving to the rotation for his sophomore season before dominating his junior season with a 2.03 ERA and 1.81 FIP in 93.1 innings pitched. This led to the Blue Jays selecting the 22-year-old 20th overall in the 2024 draft.
The right-handed pitcher didn’t make his professional debut until the start of the 2025 season, beginning the season with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, where he had a 2.43 ERA and 2.23 FIP in 33.1 innings pitched, with a 43.3 K% and 6.3 BB%. As one would expect, Yesavage quickly earned a promotion to the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he authored a 1.56 ERA and 3.04 FIP in 17.1 innings pitched, with a 47.8 K% and 15.9 BB%.
In June, Yesavage was promoted to Double-A and posted a 4.50 ERA and 2.62 FIP in 30 innings pitched, with a 38 K% and 9.1 BB%. It’s not unheard of for a Blue Jays’ pitching prospect to pitch in Single-A, High-A, and Double-A in their first season, look no further than Ricky Tiedemann in 2022, but Yesavage did so well that he earned a look in Triple-A.
With the Buffalo Bisons, Yesavage started four of the six games he appeared in, finishing his tenure with a 3.63 ERA and 2.41 FIP in 17.1 innings pitched, with a 36.1 K% and 15.3 BB%. For any pitcher in the minor leagues with over 50 innings pitched, Yesavage had the sixth-most strikeouts (one behind Gage Stanifer), but his season K% of 41.1% was the highest in all of the minor leagues.
Yesavage ranks as MLB Pipeline’s top Blue Jays prospect and their 25th-best prospect in baseball. He has an odd arm angle, which helps his mid-90s fastball with carry play up. On top of the plus fastball, two of Yesavage’s secondary pitches, his slider and splitter, are also graded 60 by Pipeline. His fourth pitch is a curveball, which is graded as average, as is his control.
