Twins Activate Dean Kremer Before Mariners Series Finale

The Minnesota Twins officially activated right-hander Dean Kremer ahead of Sunday's series finale, adding the recently acquired starter to their active roster as the club continues reshaping its pitching staff following the trade deadline.

Kremer arrived from the Baltimore Orioles in a deadline deal and takes the roster spot created when rookie Zebby Matthews was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. The Twins also transferred right-hander Mike Paredes to the 60-day injured list to clear a 40-man roster spot.

The move comes two days after Minnesota acquired left-handed reliever A.J. Minter, further reinforcing a pitching staff the front office hopes can remain in the postseason race. Entering Sunday, the Twins were 56-56, tied with the Cleveland Guardians and three games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central.

Kremer missed more than two months this season because of a right quadriceps strain before returning to Baltimore's rotation in July. The 30-year-old struggled in seven starts with the Orioles this year, posting a 1-4 record with a 6.50 ERA while striking out 38 batters over 36 innings.

Despite those numbers, the Twins are betting on Kremer's experience and durability to strengthen the back end of the rotation. He also made 30 starts during the 2025 season, giving Minnesota another veteran option down the stretch.

Matthews' demotion came despite a career-high 10-strikeout performance in his previous outing, but the move reflected a roster crunch rather than his performance. With Kremer now active and Minter already in the bullpen, Minnesota has continued to prioritize pitching depth as it battles for an American League Wild Card spot.

The Twins will look to see whether Kremer can provide stability after returning to full health following his lengthy stay on the injured list.
