Twins’ Byron Buxton may need offseason hip surgery

With the Minnesota Twins still having playoff hopes, the latest injury to star slugger Byron Buxton will no doubt put a dent in some fans’ aspirations. As Buxton exited the Twins’ game against the Athletics last Tuesday, which ended in a 4-2 loss, with a hip injury, the latest update might worry fans about the future of the 32-year-old.

According to Aaron Gleeman, Minnesota general manager Jeremy Zoll said that Buxton is currently “day-t0-day” and while the goal is to possibly avoid the injured list in the short term, an offseason hip surgery is an “option” on the table.

“Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll said Byron Buxton (hip) is “stillday-to-day to day” and will attempt to avoid the injured list for now,” Gleeman wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Zoll also revealed that Buxton eventually undergoing offseason hip surgery “is definitely a potential option as we sort through everything.”

Buxton had been dealing with a nagging hip issue for the last few months, according to ESPN, as the 32-year-old had recorded a .254 batting average to go along with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs. At any rate, it remains to be seen when Buxton returns to the Twins’ lineup, as it appears it may not be too serious, when looking at the season is still ongoing.

However, an offseason surgery could prompt two types of fan reactions: one of concern for next season or another of optimism about the attempt to relieve any lingering issues. Minnesota looks to keep their postseason dreams alive as the team is 64-70, which puts them third in the AL Central, as they’re four games back of a wild card spot.
