Twins Designate Woo-Suk Go For Assignment

The Twins announced that they have selected the contract of outfielder Walker Jenkins, a move that was reported yesterday. To open an active roster spot, fellow outfielder Alan Roden has been optioned to Triple-A St. Paul. In a corresponding 40-man move, right-hander Woo-Suk Go has been designated for assignment.

Go, 28, started this season on a minor league deal with the Tigers. In July, he triggered an assignment clause in that deal and got flipped to the Twins. With Minnesota, he got to make his major league debut, allowing four earned runs in four innings. But after that, he was optioned to the minors and has been down there since.

Before the trade, he was having good results on the farm, which is presumably why the Twins traded for him. He tossed 27 2/3 innings for Triple-A Toledo with a 2.60 earned run average, 29.1% strikeout rate, 10% walk rate and 44.8% ground ball rate. But with Triple-A St. Paul, he has allowed 13 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings. Control has been a big issue in that small sample, as he walked 11 of the 47 batters he faced, an awful 23.4% clip. He also hit a batter and threw three wild pitches.

Those command woes have seemingly pushed him off the edge of the roster. With the trade deadline having passed, he’ll have to be placed on waivers in the coming days. If he clears waivers, he would have the right to elect free agency since he has a previous career outright.

He was an effective reliever in the KBO but has been a non-factor since coming over to North America before the 2024 season. He initially signed with the Padres but was traded to the Marlins a few months later as part of the Luis Arraez deal. Both San Diego and Miami kept him on optional assignment. The Marlins designated him for assignment not long after that trade. He was later released and signed a minor league deal with the Tigers. In 145 1/3 minor league innings since crossing the Pacific, he has a 5.02 ERA.
