It has been a busy day of moves for the Minnesota Twins. The Twins began the day by optioning Royce Lewis to Triple-A on Tuesday. Now, the Twins are making more moves.
Ryan Jeffers has been placed on the IL, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic.
“Ryan Jeffers does have a hamate bone fracture as Aaron Gleeman reported and headed to IL. (The Twins) purchasing contract of catcher Alex Jackson and recalling RHP Travis Adams from Triple-A St. Paul. To make space on the 40-man for Jackson, Garret Acton transferred to 60-day IL,” Hayes posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Overall, the Twins optioned Lewis to St. Paul, designated Justin Topa for assignment, placed Jeffers on the IL, and moved Acton to the 60-day IL. In the corresponding moves, Travis Adams was recalled from Triple-A, while Orlando Arcia and Alex Jackson had their contracts selected from St. Paul.
Jeffers had been playing well this year. He is hitting .295 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs. Further, he is eighth in the majors in OPS with a .949 OPS. Victor Caratini is the other catcher on the roster. He is hitting just .192 with a home run and 15 RBIs.
Jackson was traded to the Twins in the offseason from the Baltimore Orioles. He did not make the opening day roster and was designated for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster. He cleared waivers and was sent to Triple-A, where he has played since.
Arcia is also in his first season with the Twins organization. He signed a minor league contract with the Twins ahead of the 2026 season, and was hitting .318 with eight home runs, leading to his contract being selected as well.
The Twins are 22-26 on the season, and play their second game of a three-game set with the Houston Astros on Tuesday.
