Twins Make Move After Unfortunate Injury News

The Minnesota Twins made another pitching staff adjustment Tuesday after reliever Cole Sands landed back on the injured list just two days after returning from a lengthy absence. The club recalled right-hander Jack Anderson from Triple-A St. Paul while placing Sands on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain.

The move comes as Minnesota continues to battle through injuries while trying to remain in the American League Central race. Sands had only recently returned from a months-long recovery from a right forearm strain before suffering another arm setback.

Anderson gives the Twins a fresh bullpen arm after posting encouraging results during his brief major league stint this season. Before being optioned, the right-hander allowed no runs over 3.1 innings while recording a 0.60 WHIP with four strikeouts against one walk.

Sands' latest injury is another frustrating development for Minnesota. The reliever had been sidelined since early May because of a severe forearm strain, only to make one appearance before being shut down again with a right elbow issue. The recurring arm injuries are expected to keep him out for another extended stretch.

The Twins will now rely on Anderson to help stabilize the bullpen as they prepare for a crucial series against the Kansas City Royals. His ability to provide multiple innings gives manager Derek Shelton another option while the pitching staff continues to deal with injuries.

Minnesota enters Wednesday with a 53-54 record, sitting third in the American League Central, three games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox. The division remains tightly packed with the trade deadline approaching, leaving little margin for error over the final two months.

The latest roster move highlights the balancing act facing the Twins as they try to stay in contention despite continued pitching setbacks. While Anderson gets another opportunity at the major league level, the club will hope Sands can recover from yet another arm injury and eventually return later this season.
